The study analyzed sports coverage on local network television (the Los Angeles affiliates KCBS, KNBC, and KABC) as well as highlight shows like ESPN’s SportsCenter over the 30 years. “In short, the WNBA story - the shortest in duration of the six in the broadcast - was eclipsed by five longer reports on men’s sports, stories ranging from in-season sports (MLB, pro tennis), an out-of-season sport (NBA), to human interest and comedic entertainment only tangentially connected to what most people think of as sports news,” the report found. Other coverage included Major League Baseball games and the men’s Wimbledon final, but also segments on a celebrity golf tournament and a competitive hot-dog eating contest. ![]() The 23-second-long clip was the only mention of women’s sports in the six-minute long sports segment - and it was also the shortest. The overall portion of sports coverage featuring women had been low for decades and, in 2019, an overwhelming 95% of the sports coverage included in their study focused on men’s sports.īut, they wrote, the WNBA segment was typical in other ways. They found that 80% of the televised sports news and highlights shows included zero stories on women’s sports. Messner pointed out, in that women’s sports were mentioned at all. 1/4/2024 0 Comments Tacko fall wingspanIf this doesn’t improve significantly, teams will “Hack-A-Tacko” and it might be difficult for him to stay on the floor.Īlthough neither is much of a long-range shooter, Boban made 4/8 threes last season, whereas Tacko only attempted one three in his college career. Fall is a different story, however, as he made only 36%. “Hack-a-Boban” hasn’t been a feasible strategy, as he hit 75% from the line last season. The 76er also has a huge edge on the free throw line. Both players obviously draw a lot of attention when on the floor, and Marjanovic is more capable of passing out of a double-team. On the offensive end, both players are capable of feasting on the glass, especially if a smaller defender switches onto them.īoth players turned the ball over at moderate levels, but Boban has proven to offer much more as passer, posting a 13% assist rate vs. For reference, Tacko’s 21% defensive rebounding percentage put him at 174th in college basketball, whereas Boban’s 27% would have put him at roughly 30th in the NCAA. Looking at rebounding, Boban had a clear edge in terms of defensive boards, and it’s a little discouraging that Tacko’s rate wasn’t a bit higher, especially considering the quality and size of his college competition. But in the NBA, Fall’s idea role would likely be comparable to Marjanovic’s in terms of minutes played. It bodes well that Tacko was able to play this many minutes and didn’t experience too severe of foul trouble (only fouled out in two games all season). Obviously, they were playing at different levels of basketball, so the comparison is far from “ Apples-to-Apples.” Still, this provides some insight into the two players.įirst, Tacko played 25 minutes per game this past season, while Boban played 12 and has averaged 10 minutes over his career. So how do Tacko and Boban compare statistically? The chart below shows each of their stats from this past season ( Boban played for both Clippers and 76ers). At the same time, some doctors might argue its better for his huge frame to carry less weight rather than more (from an injury prevention perspective). ![]() In terms of weight, Tacko is built skinnier than Boban, and it’s possible he could put on a little bit of weight to improve his strength. What stands out? Both are huge, but Tacko is actually a significant amount taller. Although a lot of time has obviously passed for Boban, his height and weight listings haven’t varied much from then over his NBA career. The above table reflects what Tacko measured at the recent NBA combine and what Boban measured at the 2009 EuroCamp. It’s unclear whether he’ll be drafted.Īs two giants of men, Fall and Marjanovic have predictably received a lot of comparisons, but how similar are these players really? Let’s start with the measurables. He’s impressed throughout the draft process, however, and was one of 11 players from the G League Elite Camp selected to attend the NBA combine. ![]() ![]() Despite his height, the 23-year old Fall was largely regarded as a fringe NBA prospect throughout his college career. The 30-year old Marjanovic has played four seasons in the NBA with the Spurs, Pistons, Clippers, and now the 76ers. ![]() (Credit to basketball-reference for all statistics, credit to AmericanAthleticConf, SNTV , NCAA March Madness for GIFS) At 7 foot 3, 76er Boban Marjanovic is the tallest player in the league, but UCF‘s 7 foot 7 prospect Tacko Fall will overtake him if/when he steps on an NBA floor. Most basketball players are tall, but for some, “tall” is an understatement. Tacko Fall and Boban Marjanovic were always bound to be compared to each other, but how accurate is the comparison with the NBA Draft coming? By Jacob Zinkula 3 years ago Follow Tweet 1/4/2024 0 Comments Trak stache 7![]() I was so impressed with the bike’s handling and durability that I thought it would be a perfect match for public safety cycling. I currently enjoy trail riding on a regular basis, and actually purchased a 2013 Trek Stache 7 last year. In my opinion, this is one of the best all-around bikes I have ever ridden. We also equipped our bikes with a Topeak MTX trunk and seat-post mounted rack. If you are thinking about adding a dropper seat-post, Trek has integrated internal routing for a stealth post as well. The tires are knobby and trail-oriented, so we had these swapped out for a set of Maxxis Hookworm 29X2.5 tires. Trek puts the rubber to the road with their house-brand Bontrager Duster 29 wheels and Bontrager 29er XR3 Expert tires. Even though they are considered entry-level brakes, they provide adequate and consistent stopping power. The brakes are Shimano’s entry-level hydraulic M445 brakes with a 160mm rear disc and 180mm front disc. Trek has utilized internal cable routing for the drive train. The drive train is a mixture of mid-level SRAM and Race Face components, utilizing a 2X10 drive train equipped with a SRAM X9 type-2 rear derailleur. The bike features Trek’s “e2” tapered headset, which also adds a bit of durability and stiffness to the front end. These axles are beefier than the standard 9mm quick-release axles found on a vast majority of police bikes, allowing for more durability and stiffness. ![]() The bike utilizes a 15mm thru-axle in front and a 142-12mm axle in the rear. It sports a 120mm Rockshox Recon Silver air-sprung fork with 32mm stanchions. The Trek Stache 7 is equipped with a healthy and robust mix of components. I found this to be advantageous to typical police cyclist riding environments as well. This geometry allows the rider a more stable platform for riding over the ever-changing environment of trails. The geometry of the Trek Stache models is a bit slacker than their cross-country bikes, including a longer travel (120mm) fork. Trek was a very early adopter of 29er technology, and their years of experience have enabled them to refine the geometry of their bikes, using what they call G2 geometry. The Trek Stache is a trail-oriented, hard tail 29er. The Trek Stache 7 is in the middle, offering a good component spec while maintaining a low price. For 2014, Trek offered three versions of the bike, with varying component specs (models 6, 7, and 8). By Jared Williams, PCI #1214, Tacoma (WA) Police Department, IPMBA Industry Relations CommitteeĢ014 marked the second year of production for the Trek Stache model. 1/4/2024 0 Comments Large jenga game![]() 3 Reasons Jenga is the Perfect Corporate Team Building Game Make sure that, before they write down their questions and dares, you stress to your team that they shouldn't ask anything of their fellow team members that they themselves wouldn't be comfortable with.Įstablishing mutually understood boundaries is an effective way to lay the foundation for a respectful working environment. No dare should be too difficult or ridiculous and no question should be too personal. The more your employees challenge themselves to open up around one another, the more comfortable with one another they'll ultimately become.Ī lot of the responsibility here should be placed on the dare-givers. For the sake of employee accountability and the game's effectiveness, each employee should try their best to complete his or her challenge. Make sure you stress before gameplay begins that no one is obligated to complete his or her dare. It's critical that you don't put any of your employees in an uncomfortable position. T he more "daring" your Jenga game becomes, the less "corporate" it becomes. There's one caveat you should think about when considering playing a game of "Dare Jenga" with your team. These can range from physical challenges (i.e., "do 10 jumping jacks"), to mental challenges (i.e., "recite the alphabet backwards"), to personal questions (i.e., "describe your ideal vacation": these function more like "truths" than dares). The most popular version of corporate Jenga is "Dare Jenga."Įach employee writes a challenge, or a "dare" on a Jenga block, the blocks are stacked, and each person that pulls a block is faced with a dare. But in addition to the fun of not letting the tower fall over, each time a block is pulled, your employees are struck by funny, informative tidbits about their coworkers' personalities. Corporate Jenga is actually a lot like that. There are some awfully funny videos out there of unknowing kids pulling the wrong pieces and collapsing massive Jenga towers on themselves. But if you're not convinced (or don't want to buy the game), we've also added a short list of alternatives at the end of the post.Ready? Let's quickly run through the rules of Jenga and then discuss why it is the perfect team building game. What better way to break the ice than with tumbling blocks, right? It's the perfect team building game for businesses and teams of all sizes. Jenga hits all of these nails on the head. A great team building game will help your employees work better together and the skills they develop will remain long after the team building game is over. Stay away from games that are too challenging or stressful. Your goal should be to create an environment that is fun and inspires teamwork. Team building games are one of the most effective ways for your team to connect, build comfort working together, and get to know each other on a personal and professional level.
